The Wichita Eagle is an award-winning metropolitan daily, nationally recognized for journalism that consistently serves readers' needs as well as the public interest. It is a leader in newspaper innovation - in design, story selection and presentation - built around an unwavering commitment for First Amendment and Fourth Estate values and responsibilities. Located in the heart of the United States, The Eagle is the largest newspaper in Kansas with a circulation of 94,000 daily and 165,000 Sunday. It was established in 1872. In 1973 it was purchased by Ridder Publications, which merged the following year with Knight Newspapers to form Knight-Ridder Newspapers Inc. In February 1995, the newsroom changed from a traditional section structure. We have 16 topic-oriented teams with subject matter ranging from the more tradition Crime & Safety and Public Life to Roots, and Body & Soul. In September 1995 we installed a new computer system, and we are now completely paginated. Knight Ridder is headquartered in San Jose and owns more than 30 daily newspapers. |
